Tokyo to Mt. Fuji

fuji.jpg

The scale of Mount Fuji can only be truly appreciated when seen next to the super metropolis of Tokyo. I managed to snap this photo on a weekend trip to Hokkaido a couple of weeks ago while flying out of Haneda airport. Reasonably clear day, great light, and a nice touch of smog in the air to give that “city all the way to the mountain” look.

This was the first time I really realised the scale of Mt Fuji… it just towers over the landscape from this angle as opposed to seeing it from the ground where it sort of just sticks its head up above the other smaller mountains.

You can also see how Tokyo just stretches into the distance … that is where all these 35 million people live (although you completely miss Chiba in this shot).
